The Story

  • Apothecary (a-poth-a-keh-ree) Apothecary, according to the Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, means "to make perfume; to mix spices; made; prepared." Perfume is "a pleasing smell or odor; sweet scent; especially, a liquid extract of the scent of flowers or a substance like this prepared synthetically."

    We chose to name our soap-making company an apothecary by approaching the word from a Biblical perspective. In the Bible the word "apothecary" is mentioned four times as an occupation for making anointing oils, perfumes, incense and sweet smelling things of the like. Likewise, at A&H Apothecary we use the prepared liquid extracts of flowers, herbs, resins and spices, also known as essential oils, to make sweet smelling soaps that odor and scent one's home and body.

    Exodus 30:25 — "And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy."

    According to Wikipedia: "Apothecaries' investigation of herbal and chemical ingredients was a precursor to the modern sciences of chemistry and pharmacology." "In Exodus 30:25 of the Bible the art of the apothecary is already mentioned. The profession of apothecary can be dated back at least to 2600 BC to ancient Babylon."

    A&H Apothecary is an entrepreneurial undertaking by Anayah & Hosheyah, to produce handmade cold-processed soap. The simplicity of our products does not make them any less valuable or effective. No animal products, preservatives, or harmful parabens are used in our products.

  • The essential oil used in our soap is the defining element that distinguishes each bar. While essential oils provide unique scents and fragrances we do not use them for their perfuming attributes alone; all essential oils used have a distinct quality, benefit, and feature that profit the skin and body.

  • Our mission as soap makers is to prove that exceptional products can be made without using excessive or over-the-top ingredients. We strongly believe that less is more when it comes to the products we put on our skin and that a little can go a long way.
